No! she wouldn't ever drop them

Hello everypony!

We received a lot of messages and emails of people who are concerned about the disparition of Luna and the children at the end of the animatic. Many have thoung that she is letting them fall from the sky. Nothing further from the truth; Luna loves her children so much, she wouldn't ever let them get harmed.

Here is the first shot that I composed for that part of the movie. The animatic is a reference for us that gives the key frames and the main timming, but it doesn't condense all the detail. There are like a ton of things that will appear in the final video that you don't see in the anmatic version, and the 12 foals following Luna is one of them.

:)

Spirit, signing out.

  1. 12 foals? Why does she need them? For what? I know its connected to your story and you are not gonna say anything, so all I can say is keep up the great work as we believe it will be great piece of animation art.

Still... if this is one of the reasons of Luna becoming the Nightmare Moon... it must be important... unless she will just eat them ^^

    1. It's been mentioned that Luna wants to start HER kingdom or something like this somewhere else. I can't recall correctly, 'cause... my mind is kind of a blur :3 But it's about that Luna wants to have those foals in her kingdom, I believe.

  2. Never thought she would drop them.
Why someone would think so? o_O

    2. I just thought that they disappeared in clouds for... some reason... It's just me and my mad imagination, hah!

    3. Hehehe :) I just didnt draw them near the end as Luna leads the march and is the reason for the timing.

      I didnt realize it would become a discussion ^^;

    4. Hah, I did see some people thinking the children did get dropped. Reason being is we see two of the three just fall though the clouds, never to be seen again, and the last one floated behind Luna after she lovingly nuzzles him, and then...poof! He's gone! I thought it was just a case of "wasn't sketched in", but combined with the lyrics like "Life is this way, murdering beauty and passions", and I think it could be sort of understandable how people not realizing the children just weren't sketched in might interpret it as Luna performing "mercy" killings on the abandoned children. Perhaps they'd think that also partially in the context of it leading to her becoming Nightmare Moon.
It's a really, really dark outlook on things, but hey, that's a sprinkle of fan speculation for you!

Wonderful work as always. My little sister absolutely adores Luna, and I can't wait to show her this animation when its all done. She'll be just beside herself with happiness.

    5. I think Morthgarrow has part of the problem. That ponies would instinctively associate the peace of the night she's offering with death is another of the endless insults and rejections that drove her mad. Look at these foals, orphans and homeless. She's taking away their old lives of pain and trouble, sure, but only to give them a chance to start over.

Wherever she's taking them, I'm sure it's as carefully chosen as they were, a garden of shadows where they'll have safety and resources to build their new community. Not necessarily an easy life, but not dropping them randomly in the wilderness and better than they had!

And Celestia isn't going to get any of that and will be all 'You can't go around kidnapping foals!' and 'I thought we discuss-

Ahem. I really like Luna and get carried away.

  4. Yeah, I'm was kind of puzzled as well - why would such a thought even come into someone's mind? It is fan animation for MLP:FiM, there is no--- then I remembered that Max Gilradi works is a thing. Oh well.

    1. Our aesthetic is a little bit dark, but not darker than a Casper movie. So some people maybe got the impression that we were going for something more obscure and less friendly.

  5. How can anyone think that Luna would hurt any little pony? But I still love you to explain this.
I look forward to watching your awesome show with best wishes ^^

  6. It's possibly a case of not everyone knowing the basics of animation, and how rough animatics are used to help depict poses. As someone who wants to get into animation, I have a lot of fun myself looking at some of the rough animatics from scenes they've cancelled in various disney movies.

  7. MY big question is: what happens to the foals at the end?
I mean, afterward. Does Celestia send 'em back to the orphanage? Are they never found again? Are they still wherever Luna took them (a lunar colony? Eeee that would be cool! shades of Moonstuck!)
